Dr. Andrew F. Calman, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Calman is and always has been a true leader. In 1978, Dr. Calman was Valedictorian of Culver Military Academy. He also was awarded the prestigious National Merit Scholarship. In 1982, Dr. Calman graduated Yale University with both a BS and MS in Molecular Physics and Biochemistry. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude with Distinction in the Major. In 1989, Dr. Calman graduated from UCSF's Medical School with an M.D. and PhD. He also won the Dean's Prize for Student Research and several prizes from the American Federation for Clinical Research. Currently a member of UCSF's clinical faculty as Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology, Dr. Calman is busy training the next generation of eye surgeons in the latest techniques. In 1994, Dr. Calman introduced no-stitch, no-patch, no-injection cataract surgery to San Francisco, and he has continued to be a true pioneer in advanced diagnostic & therapeutic techniques for cataract surgery, glaucoma & diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Calman is also Chief of Ophthalmology at St. Luke's Hospital and a Medical Expert in Ophthalmology for the Medical Board of California. Dr. Calman speaks 7 languages including Spanish, Tagalog, French, Italian and German. When not working, Dr. Calman enjoys time with his three children.
